Composer // Musician // Producer
Scott John Ancell (b. 1989) is a multi-award-winning composer, musician and producer based in Melbourne/Naarm, Australia. Acknowledged for his meticulous preparation and attention to detail, his body of work encompasses the highest standards.
Growing up on the Mornington Peninsula, Scott had access to various instruments at home and quickly became proficient in drums/percussion. However, he composes primarily on guitar/bass, keyboards and DAWs. From age 12, he has continuously performed and written for various original bands, (most notably) experimental rock bands A Lonely Crowd and Beautiful Bedlam. Both bands have performed extensively throughout Australia. Their albums have received excellent reviews domestically and internationally.
Scott recently completed a Bachelor of Applied Music degree (specialising in Composition) at Box Hill Institute. His skills in storytelling through music to film/moving image, orchestrations, audio-manipulation/editing and sound design were all greatly enhanced during his studies at BHI.
His original scores to films and animations have won him awards and screenings at venues such as The Astor Theatre, ACMI and Village Drive Inn Cinemas. He was recently awarded ‘Best Original Score’ at Visionnaire 2022 (hosted by The Astor Theatre) for the short film ‘After, Etc’. He received a similar award in 2021 for his work on ‘Mushroom Depression’ at a Box Hill Institute/Swinburne Tech Composers event. These accolades stand as a testament to his ability to craft music that resonates deeply with audiences.
As a freelance composer, sound designer/editor and producer for Melted Creative, Scott has worked on projects for Melbourne Fashion Week, Iwantja Arts and the Myer family. He has also collaborated independently with performers and creatives from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, VYSO, National Institute of Circus Arts and many other talented and inspiring people in the arts industry over his musical journey. Scott is always seeking opportunities to create and collaborate.
